Cabinets
Easter Weekend, etc.
After we arrived in Boise we stayed with Rulan and Kathy for a few days. We spent our time trying to find a place to live and de-stressing from the madness. I think there is a fine line for destressing. It quickly escalates to more stress because I need to be doing something. We found a place to live fairly quickly. I had actually been watching Craigslist and had already contacted the property manager for the house we ended up renting. Best part, it is across a street and 4 housed down from our lot.
On Easter weekend my family converged in Boise. Darci and her family came from Genese and my Mom, Dad, Rissie and her kids from Pocatello. They got a hotel. We went to the discovery center, the zoo, and swimming in the hotel pool. We also had a picnic at Julia Davis Park just before they all left to go home. It was a great welcome home weekend. We were so glad to see everyone. Unfortunately, very few pictures were taken.
The next week we took care of a few things that needed to be done for our lot and we left for Pocatello to visit my parents. We stayed for about a week. We went roller skating, fishing, hiking, ate at Mrs. Powells, played and swam in the back yard, bought me a SWEET new mountain bike ______________________. Rusty left to come back to Boise and close in Rulon and Kathy's garage. Mikes container was delayed about five days so he surprised us and came back to Pocatello. Then we all returned to Boise, unloaded Mike and Holly's container, and then unloaded our container. Mom and Dad came up for the weekend to help us unpack our house. We finished unpacking on Sunday night and left again on Monday.
Monday and Tuesday night we stayed in Provo with the Giles. Rusty and Mike went rock climbing on Tuesday and the girls went to Ikea. Kyleigh and Katelyn had a great time with the Giles girls and Wendi spoiled us with homemade cinnamon rolls. Wednesday we drove to Albuquerque with a stop in Moab. I tried my new bike on the slickrock practice trail. Probably not the best trail to learn how to use my new clip in pedals and shoes. While Mike and Rusty rode the actual slickrock trail we took the kids to a really great park in Moab with a whole acoustics area. We didn't arrive in Albuqueque until late that night. We stayed with Jenny and planned to leave early the next day. It turned out that the few errands we had to do took all day. We didn't leave until 6:00 or so and got to Silver with a trailor full of wood late that night.
The next day the cabinet madness began. Three full weeks of 12+ hour days, 6 days a week. Holly and I alternated between playing with kids and working. We chose hickory for our cabinets and it turned out to be exceptionally difficult to work with. Especially considering we had a learning curve to work through. Merrill's help was indispensible. He gave direction and advice atleast three times daily. He was also out working with us in the mornings and at night.
We did manage to get a few things in edgewise. We visited with Grandma and Grandpa Keeling one day and we also made it up to the cliff dwellings. The night before we left we were up until 1 in the morning trying to be ready to leave. Our 3 a.m. departure time was obviously disrupted and once again we got a late start. We went through Albuquerque and had a good visit with Matt. The girls became quick friends with Myra, who was such a cute and generous little sweetheart. We returned some wood to home depot and Jenny's trailor to their house. And, FINALLY, we left (late) yet again.
We drove up to Jenny's cabin near Chama NM. I was so pleasantly surprised with the cabin. From the descriptions I've gotten I was expecting all of us to be crammed next to each other in sleeping bags on a hard floor. There was plenty of room for everyone. In true Jenny style it was decorated so, so cute. We had gourmet food for every meal. We walked down to the lake one night and jet skiied on it the next day. Kyleigh and Ben made forts in the woods. Josh, my 11 year old nephew kicked my tail in ping-pong, then kicked Rusty's tail too. Rusty and Joseph went on a mountain bike ride (Mike and Holly got sick). They had to be rescued with the boat after a bike malfunction. Super J put the boat in the freezing water to help the rescue mission succeed. Katelyn put on "plays" for Brianna and her friend Cyan. Her original songs are very memorable. I'm sure they made a lasting impression for lots of future laughs. Josh and Ridge bonded over ball games on the TV and the football Josh brought up with him. Those two were like peas in a pod. We had a great time and can't wait to go back to the cabin.
When it was time to go we sadly, and happily (it had been a full month) left for home. We made a stop in Provo to go out to dinner with Uncle Shaun and Nathan. It was good to see them. We also stopped for a night in Pocatello. We loaded up the riding lawn mower the next morning and set off on the final leg of the exceptionally long journey.
When we walked in our house Rusty and I were so relieved that we had unpacked before we left. We had a whole other uhaul trailor with us full of cabinets and things we had left in NM before we moved to HI. We still had to find places to fit all of that, but atleast everything else was unpacked. A month is a long time, no matter how much you love the people you are with. Man it felt good to fall into my own bed and sleep on my own pillow that night.
