Visit from "House"

This guy grew up in Silver City with Mike and Russ.  He and his wife were on their way to a permanent residence in Oregon after doing traveling work for a number of years.  We had the opportunity to go out to dinner with them while they were traveling through. We heard a number of stories where most of what happened was "a good idea, at the time!"

Warm Lake

Warm Lake has become our standard for wood cutting.  There is so much dead wood and they are the perfect size. We cut down the dead trees and cut them into fireplace sized logs.  No splitting necessary.  Warm Lake also has good fishing.  It makes a wood cutting trip a fishing trip.  There is also a swimming beach if it is warm.  The little restaurant makes some killer onion rings.  This particular trip we got some fishing in, two trailers of wood, and hamburgers all around.  Not sure it gets any better than that.

First Day of School

The Girls ran off with friends as soon as we got to the playground.  Ridge also ran off to play.  I waited to go in with him for his first day.  When the parents were done with the paperwork stuff they had the kids go line up outside where they would be lining up every morning for the rest of the year.  They were supposed to wave good-bye to their Moms and Dads.  Ridge was the only kid yelling "Mom, don't leave me.  Mom, come with me."  It was a little heartbreaking.  The school counselor was on hand and walked him in with the rest of the class.  At the end of the day he was just fine and he went without complaint the next day.

100 Miles of Summer

Every summer we have a goal to reach 100 miles.  It can be via bike rides, hiking, roller blading, or rafting.  I make a poster to keep track of our mileage.  It is also a recap of our adventures.  Here are some pics of our 2015 poster.

Bake Sale

Every summer the kids get excited about a bake sale.  We have a standing rule that we can hold one bake sale per summer, and only one.  We invite a bunch of neighbor kids to join us.  The neighbors bring things to sell and we spend the entire day cooking.  The kids make posters and price lists.  We set up the awning and I have to say it is a pretty gourmet bake sale.  I would want to come.

It looked like a great day when we started baking.  It still looked great when we started selling.  The kids got a ton of business.  They were on track to sell everything we had baked.....then a freak summer storm blew in.  In a matter of minutes we were running everything into the garage in the middle of a downpour.  Even with the storm the kids ended up with $9.00 each so they were excited.  Because of the storm there were leftovers and everyone had plenty to eat.  In the end playing in the rain and eating treats were the perfect way to end the bake sale.
