The Flower Patch
I can't remember if I wrote about it or not, but we acquired a big hole in our yard one day. Kyleigh decided they should try to golf like Grandpa. Apparently, that meant making an exceptionally large divet. A couple of weeks later Rusty told Kyleigh she had to go grab some soil from a pot and fill in her hole. She did, then had a great idea. She had just gotten a packet of flower seeds at a parade. She asked if she could make a flower garden. We didn't know why not. So she planted flower seeds in the middle of the yard. She was so diligent about watering them and watched them closely for signs of life. Low and behold, they sprouted and grew. How fun to have a mini flower patch right in the middle of the yard. The only problem is Ridge, who doesn't understand that he isn't supposed to pick the flowers. I snapped the bottom picture just as Ridge pulled one out of the ground. Kyleigh is still looking down, but you can tell she is ticked.
Surprise!
I was VERY surprised to be called up in sacrament meeting on Sunday. Apparently, at the scout recognition dinner the night before I had been awarded Kauai's 2012 den leader of the year award. I wasn't at the dinner so they gave me my award at church. I didn't even know there was such an award, and I definitely didn't think they would give it to the den leader that refuses to wear the yellow shirt. However, I was very honored.
Rusty's Birthday
Happy Birthday to Russ! He is officially 34. His birthday wish this year was the same as last year. He wished to leave up the Christmas tree until his birthday. He loves to sit in the living room with the lights from the tree. I love Christmas, but I also love the feeling of putting all the Christmas stuff up and having an uncluttered feeling back. About 6 days before his birthday I couldn't stand it anymore. I cleaned up Christmas. However, I couldn't deny Rusty his wish, so we made a birthday tree. It had a birthday hat topper, and it's ornaments were balloons, hats, streamers, and party blowers. The whole family loved it. Sunday was the official birthday. Saturday morning he went on a bike ride with Mike. In the afternoon we all went to the beach and pool. Saturday night Mike and Holly watched the kids. We went to dinner, played air hockey at the fun factory, and got ice cream. Sunday afternoon we had dinner. Mike, Holly, and girls, and Shaun came over. We had garlic cheese rolls, homemade pasta with homemade "guilt free" alfredo sauce and garlic shrimp, and salad. For desert I made Rusty pies. He requested two apples and a pumpkin. I had enough pie crust leftover for a lemon meringue so we had that, too. The girls made Rusty coupon books for his birthday. The coupons were good for things like clearing the table or scratching his back. I gave him a cabelas gift card and some soft shin guards for riding his bike. He felt special for his birthday, so we did what we set out to do.

1.13.12 Katelyn's First Day of Ballet
This little honey tried ballet 1 1/2 years ago. She refused to step foot on the floor. She informed us then that she wanted to take ballet, but not until she was 5 years old. We tried a few times to talk her into it, but she was absolutely sure she wouldn't be ready until she was 5! Well, she is five now. She let us know she was ready and loved her first class. She was terribly disappointed that class this week was cancelled for MLK day and can't wait for next Monday.
