Kyleigh's Baptism
Kyleigh was baptized on September 11, 2011. We had both sets of grandparents here for the occasion. Baptisms in the Kalaheo ward are really special. It is a ward event. There are always too many people to have baptisms in the primary or young women rooms, so they are held in the chapel. When you go to the font everyone crowds into the young womens room to see the baptism, then walks back down to the chapel. We also have a standing potluck after baptisms. Another tradition is lei's. The person who has been baptized is met upon coming out of the dressing room with a line of lei greetings. It is so special. I am so glad Kyleigh was baptized with all of her grandparents and our ward ohana. Both Nama and GG gave great talks for the program. Katelyn and Naiya were supposed to give the opening and closing prayers, but they both got shy about it. Mike and I ended up giving the prayers. The primary welcome was done by Holly who was just put in the primary presidency. I thought that was so special that she got to do it. Holly said something to the effect of, "since the moment I held you I knew you were special." You can't get much more tender than a primary welcome from the first person to hold you other than your parents. Holly and Grammy shopped around in Boise to find her dress and Holly brought it back with her. She looked so beautiful. She made her own necklace and Holly gave her a bracelet. After the program we had a luncheon with a huge spread. The entire gym was filled with round tables and we had to pull out more to accomodate all of the people. My plan was to hurry into the kitchen after the program to put food out. When I rushed in for the food I saw that it had already been all laid out. Two sisters in our ward had everything dished out and it looked so nice. They had made punch and had all of the paper goods ready to go. Before I had even gotten to the kitchen to pull food out the line was halfway across the gym. Big thanks to Sisters Barino and Reed. I am so glad that Kyleigh made the decision to be baptized. It seems like just yesterday she was wearing her little white baptism dress. I can't believe she is already baptized. We love her so much.

Kyleigh Turns Eight
Kyleigh is officially eight. We had an extended birthday bash. Because of a meeting Rusty wasn't going to be able to go out to lunch on her birthday, so he took her out the day before. They had a great time at Keoki's, and she got to try the new mint chocolate chip hula pie.
On her actual birthday school was cancelled (a benefit of home-school). We had pancake men for breakfast. I am reading Katelyn the little house on the praire books, and they talk about having pancake men with legs and arms. So we stepped our pancake faces up to actual men. I even dyed some of the batter so the girls could decorate their men on the griddle. They added a few details with fruit and chocolate chips when they were off the griddle. We took off for the day with a list of Kyleigh's favorite things that she wanted to do. We started at the humane society where we played with two different puppies. They were cleaning the kitten cages so we couldn't play with a kitten, but they took a mouse out and let us hold it. We then left for the shoe store. I told Kyleigh I would buy her a pair of shoes and one thing at Claires. She also brought some of her own money to spend. At the shoe store they were having a buy one, get one half off sale. She narrowed it down to two pairs of shoes, so I bought the first one and she bought the second half off. We then went to Claire's, where they were also having a sale, on shoes. It was a buy one get one free. So Kyleigh bought herself two more pairs of shoes and I bought her a cute headband. Knowing Kyleigh I can't really think of a better way to spend her birthday than buying shoes. To top off the morning we went to lunch and then for frozen yogurt at Orange Grove.
That night was the Layton summer party. They had rented out the boy scout camp in Waimea Canyon so we went camping. The next morning we came back to town for Kyleigh's soccer game and then back up to the camp for the lunch/games portion of the party. That night we went to the fair. O.K., I'm getting tired thinking about all of this.
Sunday night was Kyleigh's family birthday dinner and cake. We had Kyleigh's choice, lasagna, garlic bread, and jello. She wanted a Belle party (Beauty and the Beast). I made a Belle barbie cake. It looked pretty cute. The only catch was that the barbie was too tall for the cake. Rusty and I talked about how we could fix it. We didn't want to cut the barbies legs off because the girls were looking forward to playing with it when the party was over. We ended up pushing the barbies legs through the cardboard that the cake was sitting on and putting the whole thing on a bowl so the legs hung down into the bowl. It worked. We played two games at our little party. One was pin the chip on chip. The other was a "guess who you are." I taped a piece of paper with a beauty and the beast character on everyone's head. They had to guess who they were by asking other people questions. Katelyn got hers without any help. She asked if she had fur. She did, because she was the beast.
We had a great birthday party. We are now preparing for her baptism, which will be held September 11th.

Theme Week
The week after we got home from vacation, before soccer camp and school started, we had theme week. I knew we weren't going to have much to do all week, so I made a plan. The theme days were pirate day, tie-dye day, dog day, and shark day. I also planned snorkeling day, but we got busy and didn't get that done until just recently.
On pirate day we made silver pirate treasure coins. A.K.A. rice krispy treats wrapped in aluminum foil. Then we had a pirate treasure hunt around the house to find them.
Tie-dye day we made tie dye shirts and ice cream. I have had a tie-dye kit in my craft tower for a couple of years and we finally used it. The girls loved it. They were so excited to get their shirts out of they dryer. We made it a family affair and Ridge even got a onsie. The tie-dye ice cream was vanilla ice cream dyed several colors and layered. When you scooped it the colors swirled around each other. That was fun, too.
On dog day we visited the humane society to play with the puppies and made rocket dogs for dinner. The rocket dogs turned out so cute, we might have to make them again next fourth of July.
Shark day was another cupcake day. We made shark cupcakes and learned about sharks.
We all had something to look forward to. We all had fun. And nobody asked "what can I do now?" Yeah!
